Church from 2:30 - 5:30 on Sunday tends to leave me a bit ornery. Three hours is a long time, especially late in the day.
I was looking forward to the 60 Minutes piece on Michael Phelps to cheer me up. Little did I know they would do one better and have Anderson Cooper lead the interview. X sat back and laughed as I drooled - they're both attractive, well-spoken, and accomplished individuals.
After their one-lap race, both were winners. Mr. Phelps' body is incredible in that Speedo and Mr. Cooper's hair was still perfect after the lap. But me? I was the biggest winner of all just for watching.

Mmmm... Shopping
Yeah, so Thanksgiving was Thursday. We ate. Xav cooked - turkey on the grill, sausage stuffing. I (sort of) helped and made a mean strawberry spinach salad. And we ate with some of Xav's parents' old family friends the Luthers. Good stuff all around. After dinner, we came home and I made rolls so X can have his turkey sammiches.
But even better was Friday. I generally avoid any area where shopping might possibly occur on Black Friday, but I had to work at BR, and there are some screamin' deals happening this weekend. Add to that my employee discount and damage was bound to be done. I am now the proud owner of a new coat and scarf, just in time for a fly-out to somewhere cold next week.
I don't look nearly as sassy as this girl, but I do have a red scarf to punch it up a bit.
And in case I haven't said it before, The Gap, Inc. is a great company full of great people. I am constantly impressed at the stuff this company does for its employees.

Ironic, isn't it?
I know I have a lot of things to post about... my baby brother's mission farewell and his trip to Brasil, seeing long-lost cousins (shout out to Justin and Brandon and my new favorite CIL April!), seeing my peeps at LISA, and then seeing some mighty cool presentations at CHIMIT. But all of that would take too much time and require pictures - none of which I have right now. And Kathryn has called me out and requested a post.
Have you ever noticed that sometimes, fixing something means doing more of what's causing it? You have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sure. I have this problem lately of stressing and worrying about everything. And then I remember about my propensity to get the shingles when I'm stressed and end up stressing about being stressed. It's a beautiful trait.
Most of my stress revolves around the list of things I need to accomplish every day: work, research, job hunting, billz... Ugh. Unfortunately, the universal answer to my stressful days and sleepless nights boils down to taking time for me, working out, streching, etc. Um, yeah. I stress about the sheer amount of things I need to accomplish in a day, and you want me to deal with that stress by adding more to it? The longer I put it off, the more I realize it is sound advice - I did sleep better and deal with stress better when I was running every morning - but honestly, when I finally fall asleep at 3 or 4 am, I have very little motivation to wake up at 5:30 to run. And I can't just wake up and run around my neighborhood like I did in NY; we are in a ridiculously small neighborhood on a major road full of crazy drivers. And running in the evening isn't really an option - I have an extra job, young girls to warp (ooh! another post topic), and a post-doc to make progress on. Plus, the yoga class that would do wonders for my mind and super tight muscles is across town and takes more time.
I'm not whining... just noticing. It's a mean little trick to make me add to my list to eventually take one item off of it. (stress). Any tips, as always, are greatly appreciated. Potential running partners and yoga gurus can chime in, too.

Double standard
Every morning I check all of my friend's blogs, hoping for updates. I love reading everyone's stories about everyone's lives. And I get mildly irritated when there aren't any updates to entertain me while the rest of my brain warms up for the day.
Me? I have every intention of blogging - I even think of things to blog about every day or two. I just don't ever seem to post them. I'll see what I can do about posting. Current activities should give me plenty of material: This last weekend I was in Utah for my baby brother's mission farewell (look out, Brazil) and this week I'm in San Diego for LISA and CHIMIT. I'm smiling just thinking about it all.
Ya'll just keep up your posting in the meantime. Thanks.
