I heart George Clooney

So, you all know that George is on my laminated card. Well, a friend sent me a celebrity soulmate quiz... and even they say George is the one for me.

Sorry, Xav, Sarah... ;)

And the award goes to...

... not me. UNCW has offered the position to another candidate, who already has his or her (I think it was her) PhD and seven years teaching experience. If she accepts the offer a signs the contract, then congratulations to her. If not, they kinda-sorta-unofficially said I was the second choice. Either way, I'm flattered to have made it so far in the process for such a great school with wonderful faculty. Best of luck to all of them.

In the meantime, I've got a dissertation to write and a plan to come up with.

But tonight was the Oscars! Since I've been sick all week, I changed into my fancy pajamas and settled in with some cookies and soda. And to sum it up, very very few Americans won any awards... though my favorite former stripper did. Yay for Juno! Jon Stewart was funny as always, the ceremony went overtime as always, and I ate too many cookies (fill in the blank here).

Oh, and by the way, for those of you who know what this means: George Clooney is on my laminated card. Actually, he is the entirety of my laminated card, though Matt Damon might be an honorable mention. And Xav approves. ;)

It's a very slimming color...

Thanks to the haze that has taken over my brain and the aches that don't let me sit longer than an hour, the dissertation work comes to a grinding halt and I post random, stupid things. Thanks to Jill for the link.

Take this test!
Your color is black. The color of night. Serene and mysterious, black conjures up images of elegant evening gowns, dashing tuxedos, and gleaming limousines. Traditionally a symbol of success, black also represents power and an uncompromising demand for perfection. Not surprisingly, you tend to set challenging goals for yourself and do whatever it takes to achieve them — your strength of character is second to none. This unfaltering determination, along with your natural elegance, impresses people. But keep in mind that your personality might be intimidating to some. Try to temper your demanding side with a little softness — trust us, it won't kill you. Overall, though, black is the color of professionalism and achievement, which means it's clearly the color for you.

Oh, and thanks to Xav for giving me the flu. Damn kisses.

Update

So, I guess this is mostly an update that there is no update. I still haven't heard from UNCW, but am hearing from my advisor that this most likely isn't bad news. That is, if I was a no, I probably would have heard by now. The faculty may still be deciding, they may be waiting on paperwork or University approvals, or they may have offered the position to another candidate...

That last option obviously isn't my favorite choice, but I'm okay with being their second or third choice as long as I get the opportunity to accept the offer. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed and chipping away at the dissertation. I'll keep you all posted if I hear anything.

Indigo-hued round objects

After all of that waiting and anticipation, there was no phone call yesterday. Ugh. Hopefully, there will be some good news on Monday.

This must be what it feels like for guys. All the anticipation and buildup and then... nothing.

Legalized torture

If only I had skipped lunch with my friend yesterday...

I would not be in pain today. As Gayla and I were ordering greasy pizza, she casually mentioned she was going to eat the worst food she could think of before she started boot camp that afternoon. As she described the trainer and the format, I thought this sounded like the perfect thing to do to a) get me in shape, b) force some change of routine so I don't go crazy writing my dissertation, and c) get me in shape. Next thing you know, I'm calling the trainer on the phone and signing up for a 4-week, 3-day-a -week, hour-long fitness boot camp.

What I should have realized is that boot camp is exactly what I hated about sports in high school. Don't get me wrong - I love sports. What I hated was the running and ladders and lunges we had to do when we screwed up. Oh, and squat thrusts. Ugh.

So basically, if you see me waddling around for the next few weeks, I've been skipping the fun part of team practice and going straight to the punishment part. All I can say is I'd better have a six pack at the end of this. I'll try to keep you all (painfully) updated.

Super Tuesday

I've never voted in a primary election before, but I should have. This is the easiest vote ever - only one little circle to fill in and you're done. The strange thing for me was only seeing one party's candidates on my form; as a registered Republican, I couldn't vote for Obama and his cute Hitch dance even if I wanted to.

It was also fun to see the pollster's faces when I grabbed my salmon-colored ballot and Xav got one that was blue. Ah, let the political debates begin.

C'mon Universe

So, I'm not much of a believer in The Secret (duh duh duh), but I'm going to go ahead and use it for the next few days. UNCW just finished meeting with their final candidates yesterday and will be making their final hiring decision Monday morning at 7:30a EST.

Between now and then, I'm channeling all my happy, Nicole-is-the-one-for-the-job vibes to Wilmington. You're all welcome to join me. And for all those haters out there who don't want me to get the job (because you want me and Xav to stay in Tucson), well, just pretend they aren't making their decision until the next week. You can send all the crazy vibes you want once I get a written offer.

Ohmm.....

Panic mode

First of all, a big huge thanks goes out to Sidd. I would much rather be panicking now than panicking later.

Basically, I just found out I have to have my dissertation done a month earlier than I thought I did. Yeah, that's me you hear freaking out and hyperventilating.

I should still be able to pull this off for a May graduation, and really, the alternative is to push it back a few weeks and just have my official graduation date be in August... But I don't like the idea of an August graduation for many reasons. And I'm a girl. Let me freak out for a day or so before you make me be all rational and logical. I've found that 24 hours and a bowl of ice cream can do wonders for the rational thinking part of me.

ColdStone, here I come.
